About Us
Finnish Happiness Academy
Empowering People. Inspiring Communities. Building Flourishing Futures.
Finland has been recognised as the world’s happiest country for nine consecutive years. Behind this achievement lies something much deeper than happiness itself: a culture built on trust, equality, lifelong learning, connection with nature, sustainability and a strong sense of community.
We transform these values into practical learning, meaningful experiences and collaborative action that help people, organisations and communities flourish.
OUR STORY
More Than Happiness — A Way of Living
Finland’s success is not the result of a single idea or policy. It reflects a distinctive way of life shaped by shared values and a strong sense of community.
We believe the values behind Finland’s happiness are not only among the country’s greatest strengths; they also offer valuable solutions to many of today’s global challenges.
The Academy was founded to share this living philosophy beyond Finland’s borders. We help individuals, international companies, entrepreneurs, and communities discover how these values can inspire healthier, happier, and more flourishing lives built on trust, kindness, inclusiveness, and resilience.
We do not simply teach happiness. We create opportunities for people to experience it, practise it, and co-create joy with like-minded people. Our workshops support lives filled with wellbeing, meaningful relationships, creativity, contribution, and purpose.

OUR VISION
Finland as a Global Leader in Human Flourishing
Our vision is to position Finland as a global leader in human flourishing by sharing Finnish values, education and sustainable ways of living with the world.
We envision a future where happiness is measured not only by how governments operate and how well societal systems support individuals, but also by our own ability to create thriving families, resilient communities, innovative businesses, and a healthier planet.

OUR MISSION
Turning Finnish Values into Meaningful Action
Our mission is to turn Finnish values into practical learning, shared experiences and collaborative action that strengthen well-being, resilience and connection.
Through education, online courses, workshops, and community partnerships, we help people and organisations build healthier, more purposeful, and sustainable futures.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Flourishing Happens When Every Part of Life Grows Together
01
Purpose
Living with meaning creates motivation and resilience. When people understand what matters to them and how they can contribute, they are better prepared to navigate change, overcome challenges and build fulfilling lives.
02
Wellbeing
Healthy habits, balanced nutrition, regular movement, restorative sleep and emotional balance provide the foundation for a fulfilling life. We help people turn wellbeing into realistic everyday practices rather than a distant ideal.
03
Nature
Finnish forests, lakes and seasonal ways of living teach us to slow down, restore ourselves and reconnect with what truly matters.
Our relationship with nature also calls for responsible daily action. Practical activities, such as making reusable beeswax covers to replace plastic, show how small choices can reduce pollution, protect biodiversity and support a healthier planet.
04
Creativity
Art and music can be powerful tools for recovery, resilience and personal renewal. Creativity can help people express difficult experiences, rebuild themselves during challenging times and discover new possibilities.
We connect creativity with entrepreneurship, creative thinking and lifelong learning. Our activities make art and music approachable even for complete beginners, giving everyone the opportunity to explore, create and grow.
05
Community
Strong relationships, trust and collaboration create communities where people feel safe, valued and connected. We work with different associations and partners to co-create memorable gatherings, experiences and initiatives that bring people together.
06
Sustainability
True sustainability connects personal wellbeing, economic prosperity, social responsibility and environmental stewardship. By understanding our relationship with nature and with one another, we can cultivate a purpose greater than ourselves and make choices that support both present and future generations.

WHY FINLAND?
A Country Built on Balance and Well-being
Balance over burnout. Cooperation over competition. Long-term thinking over short-term success.
Finland consistently ranks among the world’s leading countries in happiness, education, trust, safety, innovation, sustainability, equality, and quality of life.
These achievements are not the result of a single policy. They reflect a way of living that values balance over burnout, cooperation over competition, and long-term thinking over short-term success. Our goal is to share these lessons with the world while learning from other cultures and creating new solutions together.

FINNISH HAPPINESS
What Does a Strong Sense of Community Look Like in Finland?
Finland’s strong sense of community is closely connected to trust, participation and the many ways people contribute to everyday community life.

ASSOCIATIONS

High Participation in Associations
Around 75–80% of people in Finland participate in at least one association, and the country has approximately 70,000 active associations.
These include sports clubs, parent associations, village committees, music groups, environmental organisations, youth organisations, volunteer fire brigades, cultural clubs and hobby groups. Associations give people practical ways to meet, participate, contribute and build lasting relationships.
Helping Neighbours Is Normal
Around 60% of people have helped someone outside their own household. This may include shopping, running errands, helping with childcare, offering practical assistance or supporting an elderly neighbour.
These ordinary acts of care strengthen trust and remind people that they are not alone.
Volunteering Is a Way of Life
Volunteering is deeply rooted in Finnish community life. People contribute their time through associations, events, sports, environmental work, cultural activities and local initiatives.
This participation creates social capital: networks of trust, mutual support and cooperation that make communities stronger and more resilient.
Community Begins with Children’s Hobbies
Children’s hobbies often bring entire communities together. Parents and volunteers coach football teams, organise concerts, participate in parent associations and help arrange local events and competitions.
These shared responsibilities create connections between families and teach children the value of participation from an early age.
Trust Makes Community Stronger
Research published in the Finnish Journal of Social Research shows a close relationship between participation in associations and social trust. When people work together, share responsibility and experience cooperation in everyday life, trust becomes stronger.
That trust makes it easier for people to collaborate, ask for help and contribute to the wellbeing of others.
Community Is Built into Everyday Life
In Finland, community is not limited to formal organisations. It is also visible in talkoot—voluntary communal work—local festivals, public libraries, community saunas, local sports clubs and village associations.
Everyman’s Right supports a shared relationship with nature by allowing people to enjoy forests, lakes and outdoor spaces responsibly. Together, these traditions and public resources create opportunities for people to meet, participate and feel connected.
